I love the pinky clip a LOT. Its one of the most underused ways to palm/steal a card in magic right now in my opinion. Any pinky clip steal is easier to get into than a palm and if you wanted to it can easily be moved to tenkai and lateral palm with ease. In this small little essay I want to give away a few ideas and applications I've found with the pinky steal and clip.
Basic Pinky Clip Steal: This is the steal into a pinky clip I see as the easiest but others may see it differently. It's done in the action of flipping over a double as the top card either face up or to face down depending on which card you want to steal and which direction you want it stolen in. When you turn over the double outjog the card about 1/3rd or 1/2 its length. Grab the card with your right hand in a kind of sideways biddle grip. Instead of grabbing from the top like a normal biddle grip grab from the side at a 90 degree angle to the rest of the cards and allow the corner of the card to slide right into between your pinky and your 3rd finger. Place your thumb on the top card to prevent it from moving. To actually steal the card just pinch the cards between your fingers then pull the card away. You can break this action up by pulling it out of alignment therefore allowing it to move freely on its own but still under the other card pushing everything in to the deck then moving away from the deck after. With that the steal is further away from the point that you actually have your hand in the steal position possibly making it more deceptive.
Top card switch/control : This allows you to show the top card cleanly to everyone then flip it over put it in the center and already have it controlled to the top. The card can also be dealt out or put anywhere and it is switched. To do this simply flip the top card over get a break under the top face up card and card face down below it. put the cards into the steal position lift them up and show off the top card to the spectators. As you place them back onto the deck steal the face down card using the method listed above. Use your pointer finger to cleanly turn the top card over then place the clipped card on top and deal it off like you would deal the top card normally. when doing the top card switch to put it in the center I don't even bother fully replacing it. I simply block the top of the deck with my hand and then rotate the card in my fingers and stop blocking the deck as I place it in the center. the retention of vision is perfect.
Color change: If you do the basic picky clip steal face up you can move the hand to the side rest the card on the fingers and it looks from face front and face to the side that nothing is in your hands as long as you keep your fingers together. So knowing this you can do a very simple really pretty color change. Steal the card wave right wave left and open your fingers and the card has changed. it looks like a more open erdnase color change.
Pinky clip to Lateral Palm: Once in the pinky clip position it will feel more comfortable if you move it into lateral palm. All you need to do is rest the card on the fingers of the deck hand and then place the middle finger onto the corner of the card. A second more advanced method can be done one handed however. Take the card in pinky clip and rotate your 3rd and 4th fingers corner back so that the rest of the card sticks up. Do this until it sticks up and allows your middle finger to grab the corner.
Pinky clip to Tenkai palm: The first step to getting to tenkai is getting it into lateral palm as mentioned above. Once that's achieved all you need to do is put your thumb around the card and use your middle finger to push the card back to whatever position your would like it to be in depending in how deep the palm needs to be.
Now you know enough to start using the pinky clip in some basic ways! Go out experiment and come up with more beautiful ways to use it! I'm excited to see more pinky clip uses in the future!
